Please can some one advise me as i was told by a comittee member that this was not the case.

So i decided to walk of after 9 with a score of 38 in a medal.

Nikos, your card must be signed by a member of the club.
Really....you sure?
An initial investigation of rules both locally and with congu seem to point to the marker being a handicap holder only. Crsipin could you confirm?

As far as CONGU are concerned a member is somebody who can play in a qualifying ( as far as handicap) competition, i.e. somebody with an official CONGU handicap, but individual clubs are allowed to have additional rules which further define who constitutes being a member for that club's competitions.  At the moment the only stipulation that we, Trent Park GC, have regarding who can and cannot mark competition cards is that for players seeking to gain an initial handicap their card must be signed by a player with an offical CONGU handicap (i.e. the CONGU definition of a member.)

So as far as Nikos' original question "Jo Pubilic" (sic spelling) can only mark a competition card if they have an official CONGU handicap.

Note before anybody asks Trent Park GC's rules do stipulate that to enter our competitions players MUST be members of Trent Park GC.  Guests are allowed in certain competitions but not on an ad hoc basis.

Just a small question, mine is what about past members? do they still hold a CONGU handicap and for how long does your CONGU handicap stay with you once you've not renewed your club membership, if anyone knows the answer it may help
As I understand it a player can only have an official CONGU (CONfederation of National Golf Unions) handicap if they are a member of a club which is affiliated to one of the national golf unions which cover England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland (both bits).  Thus once they cease to be a member then their handicap ceases.  But the powers that be recognise that there will be periods in a players "career" when they are between clubs and in such cases when a player again becomes a member of a CONGU affilaited club then their old handicap becomes re-activated.  I am not sure how long a hiatus a player is allowed (it used to be 6 months) before this re-activiation doesn't happen and the player needs to go through to whole initial handicap process but even in such cases the player's old handicap is supposed to be taken into account when allocating their new handicap.
